What about Amanda Nguyen, who dreamed of being an astronaut and had those dreams crushed by being raped while at Harvard? I really agree with the general sentiment, but I think its sad and unfortunate people are completely ignoring her because of freaking Katy Perry. I think her going to space, Amanda Nguyen I mean, is inspiring given this is the woman who would not let the system that silenced victims also sweep her under the rug and she rewrote and advocated for the Sexual Assault Survivors' Act. I think this is especially galling when one is familiar with how East Asian young people, girls in particular, are ignored, sexualised and isolated in most Western Higher Education institutions (I am writing my thesis on Dutch higher education and international students as I am one myself, hello and much admiration from the University of Amsterdam, and there is so much literature that discusses how East Asian students are brutalised mentally, physically and socially. In my own uni we recently had an Asian student disappear and the uni was slow to care publicly until he was found dead and now there is a memorial.) I think her going up there is inspiring given all of this and I am very sad people are only paying attention to the vapid white woman instead.
