One little note, Karla’s career was in Spain, not Mexico. She is a white European woman, that’s what makes her comments so damning. Although the movie was laughably bad, she was great in Emilia Perez, and I too was shocked when I found out she played Emilia’s pre-transition self. However, the presentation of her character’s pre-transition self was definitely brownface. In the movie she has broad features, dark hair, and brown skin. This is especially shocking considering Karla presented as a white person with blonde hair and blue eyes before her transition.
I feel like you’d have to see the movie to understand why it’s so polarizing. In my opinion it is a racist, xenophobic, transphobic mess. I think the reason it’s getting so much love is because the old, white, cisgender academy voters think this movie is “important” based on its synopsis. Some of the biggest controversies before Karla was revealed to be a bigot were when it was revealed that the film’s French cisgender director, Jacques Audiard, doesn’t speak English or Spanish, shot the film entirely in France, didn’t not include any Mexican-born actresses in the lead roles, and said he felt like he didn’t need to do research.
If I am not mistaken the MAGA equivalent in Spain is the VOX party. Spain has a very brutal fascist history and it seems their culture is undergoing a similar shift back to the right.
About what you said around 13:00 - there is no evidence, proof, documentation at all. She just chose to make an egregious accusation without anything but delusion in her mind, it is insane to think that she was in a press tour in Brazil accusing the country's actress of attacking her/the movie, as if ever since day 01 Mexicans were not criticizing the representation they saw on screen.

I’m living for the way Selena and Zoe have left her ass behind
