Hi Friends!
In this exclusive podcast episode (that I decided to make public because it took longer to get edited than I expected), I explore the complicated and, generally, messy way public figures navigate their identities and personal relationships.
First, I discuss Michael Eric Dyson’s sloppy flirtations with Representative Nancy Mace. It’s such a shame that so many of the men who shaped my interest in Black culture and intellectualism often fall short personally by crossing lines and embarrassing themselves in the public eye. Here’s more on Dyson’s Georgetown harassment allegations.
FYI, I was fuzzy on the details in the podcast, but I remember Dyson from the Freedom Awards in 2016. This is what I wore to the ceremony a whopping 8 years ago.

I also examine the embarrassment that’s engulfed Labor Party leader Keir Starmer, who has been criticized for accepting lavish gifts while positioning himself as a man of the people.
Lastly, I touch on David Axelrod’s advice for Kamala Harris and the consequences of side-stepping identity politics to win the presidential election. Can this strategy work long-term, or will those suppressed resentments eventually explode back into public discourse? I’m betting on the latter.
Plus, I’m super excited to share some new merch I’ve been working on, including a few graphic t-shirts that I really, really love.
